"I think it was two ninjas taped together to make one giant ninja!"

Saturday night. I tried to draw something, but couldn't get anything to come out of my pencil, so I decided to give you this neato colage of the better doodles I've done while working at SuperValu.

on some decidedly awesome news, I found out that I'll have more than enough money to keep me alive for the next two terms of school. Hooray for keeping death by starvation away! I wasn't actually woried, but now I know, and knowing is half the battle.

Also, Jack Black and Tenacious D totally rule. Classico! Watch the video!

Special Guests.

recently we had a special guest with us at school. Jim Hickey, an amazing artist who worked on Cats don't Dance, as well as backgrounds on the Flintstones to name but two things, came all the way from Los Angeles to stay with us for a week. It was awesome to talk first hand with an artist working in the field. As a thank you we're going to be sending him some sort of collage of drawings. This is my addition to the whole.

what?

Wii!

Wii?

Wii...

...

Now that that's out of the way. You may, or may not (I don't blame you, I'm not that interesting to begin with), have been wondering where I've been. Well, to give the full answer whould cause a time space paradox in which nothing but dustbunny's slipper could survive. The sort answer therefore is that I've been listening to near fatal amounts of "Weird All" Yankovich, playing Guitar Hero II and reading. I know, reading! Never thought it'd be something to cheer for, but it's been really hard getting into books here in the Chi. I finished the Traveler(the first novel by John Twelve Hawkes), Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and started on the Steel Throne(part of the Legend of the Five Rings series).

anywho, here's something I did like a month ago or something, I don't remember anymore. the one on the right is digital and the left is the watercolors I put on the drawing.

Arr! Me Hearties!

So, aparently, September 19th was official, International Talk Like a Pirate Day. I almost completely missed it! R Stevens over at Diesel Sweeties had been talking about it a couple times but I guess it just didn't click. It wasn't untill I saw an article in the newspaper about it that I was like, "whoah...er, i mean ARR!". Everybody mark your callenders for next year, this is a holiday that deserves celebrating.

One Down

Yay! My first project for animation is finished. I’m hoping to ink and color it when I get it back. The catch is, I won’t get it back until the end of term at least, maybe even end of year and by that time, hopefully, my skills will have improved to the point that I won’t want to anymore.

Out of the Gates Running

I’ve now completed my first full day of animation. I had to do a literacy/mathematics test, which was of course, lots of fun. I’m very confident that I passed so that’s not a big deal, but just the fact that I had to do a math test. Math! Yuck! Hopefully it’s all done for more then a while.

I’ve already received my first assignment, due Thursday. I’m to do a background, no stipulations, no rules, whatever I want. I always have a problem with projects like that, it seems like I have so many ideas and then I can’t decide on one. So much of my time is spent thinking about what I’m going to draw, nothing actually gets onto the paper. Here’s hoping for some decision making power.

To finish off, here is a picture I drew at work during the summer.

Happy Days are here again!

Hooray for the end of summer! The end of work, and the start of new, better, and more fun work. So long Supper Store, and bye bye Blockbuster. It’s only a temporary reprieve of course, but one I’m more then ready for.

Starting Monday I’ll be going back onto my drawing regimen, at least fifteen minutes a day drawing for myself, on top of everything I’ll be doing for school. I noticed very dramatic improvements when I was doing this in June and I can’t wait to get back to it.

On that note, here’s a little thing I drew between customers at the Supper Store.

Gasp...!

so, I totally can't wait to get back to the Miramichi and start the new school year. Don't get me wrong, Fredericton is a nice place and i love my Family and Friends, but I'm just SO excited to start animation. just a month and a third left.

In much happyer, and more important news, Vicky came down from the Miramichi last weekend. I got to see her for most of the day Sunday. We went to see Pirates of the Caribean: Dead Man's Chest, which was completely and utterly awesome. such a Clifhanger!!! after the theatre, we went to eat at Mexicali Rosa's, a little restaurant downtown, and one of my favorites. we then went to Blockbuster and rented Mirrormask, which was great, very imaginative with crazy visuals. all in all it was a very awesome day. "you never know how much you miss someone untill they're gone" aplies very well here. yet another reason to get back to the Miramichi.

and most important, Vicky and I are actually together now :D we've been seeing each other for about a month or so, but now we are 'officially' boyfriend/girlfriend. I'm very, Very happy :D

as for my daily sketching, well, daily has kindof gone out the window the past week. I don't know why, but I couldn't seem to get into it. oh well, time to plow ahead anyways. this is a little experiment I did last night with water soluble pencil. is'nt it cute.

Two Sketches

Summer is in full swing here in Fredericton, which for me means no free time. I got home last Friday, started working that Saturday, and havn't stopped since. actually, I don't have a day off untill this coming Sunday, which is only free because I asked for it off. There's this cool chick named Vicky coming down from the Miramichi to visit, I'm very excited about it. we're going to see Pirates of the Caribean 2:Dead Man's Chest, very cool.

I watched a very cool movie yesterday called Strings, and I highly recomend it to anyone who likes weird movies, or is into animation. it's all done with marionettes and is surprisingly well 'acted'. Also, I got to see Superman Returns in theatres last Friday. to me, it was awesome, most of my friends however are of a different mindset. oh well, too each their own right?

I've got two pictures for you today, the first is one of my favorite superhero's. Many people may know him as Shazam, but he's actually called Captain Marvel.

I've been keeping up with my daily drawing b sketching during my breaks at work. I havn't had the oprotunity however to really sit down and think about my painting, which is a little it of a downer.

Until next time...

Fire Coming out of the Monkey's Head

so here I am, back in Fredericton and working my butt off. oh well, I'm sure that I'll have some fun during the next two months, like when Vicky comes up to see her brother.

I don't know how many of you have heard the Gorillaz song this post is named after, but you really have to. It's more of story then a song but it has some pretty cool visuals running through my noggin. I wanted to do some painting this summer, work out the many kinks I discovered during painting class. one of my paintings, assuming I actually go through with it and paint anything, will be from this song, it's just too crazy not to do something. This is my first "rough" of what it might look like. It's ok, especially for my first attempt EVER at really drawing a background from my imagination, but there's definetley room for improvement. I'll post version 2-however many there end up being as I finish them, most likely one a day during my daily drawing time. I'm thinking of doing something pretty big for this, most likely 20x24 or 30x30 so I'm not sure how I'll get the finished product scanned in, but I'll try my best. anywho, untill next time...

Barenaked Ladies should put their clothes back on

Can anyone say Insomnia? I knew you could. So, it's 5 o'clock in the morning when I start doing my sketching for the day. seriously, I don't know what's wrong with me, but lately I've been going to bed later, and later, and later, and later.....

It was suggested to me by my Life Drawing instructor, Geordie Millar, that I spend time this summer working on character design. Tonight, or this morning, whichever way you'd like to think of it, I used my daily sketch time to do just that.

A Year Removed

I was cleaning up my desk today, getting rid of random scraps in preperation for my trip back to Fredericton, and I came across some sketches that I did last summer. I had forgotten about this doodle but I really liked it and put it through my computer for colours. It's based on a true story, hope you like it :)

Home or Home...which way to go.

School is over for a couple months I've got mixed feelings about it. On one hand I'm excited to go home and be with my family and friends in Fredericton, I'm also, surprisingly excited to start working and paying off credit cards. The other hand however, contains my friends here in the Miramichi (one, who knows who she is, is becoming more then just a friend), and of course I'd like to just start the animation program, not have to wait two months. Oh well, I'm sure that I'll enjoy myself over the summer and then be more then ready to get back to things in September. Next year I might attempt staying in the Chi for the holiday, but that's a year away and much to early to think about yet.

My marks are pretty good too, the lowest is 83 and everything else is 90 or above. Writing is the only course that I havn't gotten anything back from yet so I'm not sure how I did. I don't think there will be a problem, especially since I havn't heard anything to make me think that there would be.

some time ago I seem to remember saying I'd post the hand drawings I've been doing in my sketchbook and seeing that I havn't done anything more interesting, here they are. There were a couple other good ones that wouldn't fit in, so I'll make another when I have enough to do so.

until next time.

the Insanity

He he, this was just too hilarious, I couldn't not post it. It's now been a whole week that I've been drawing every day, and I think it's great. I've got quite a few studies of my left hand, I'll have to post them eventually, some of them really aren't half bad.

Also, feel free to leave coments by clicking the link beneath each post, I'd love to hear what anybody reading this thinks about my work. Cheers.

Todays Sketch

Vicky, tania and I watched the Pink Panther, and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang tonight. I saw Pink Panther in theatre, but I was more then happy to watch it again. Jean Reno inspired me to make this guy look more french. I'm not sure exactly who the girl is...maybe a love interest ?

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was surprisingly good, not sure what I was expecting, but I feel that I got alot more. Val Kilmers character was awesome, gay Perry. Anywho, untill next time.

Progress

During my daily sketching today, I finally started to hit on what I was looking for. I've been trying to design a male character to work with the the robot girl I've shown a couple times. There's still some stuff to work out but I'm really happy with this so far.

In other news, Vicky and I went to the theatre again this Friday. We saw Over the Hedge and Cars, both were awesome. The two of us agree that we can't wait to see them again on DVD, and I especially can't wait for Cars special features.

Movies, Books and colour.

Very sorry if I've been lacking in new stuff lately. Well, at any rate I'm here now, with news. Exciting news!

As you may know, Vicky and I went to see X3 a couple weeks back and I am here to tell you I loved it. Sure there were a very few things about it that kindof ticked me off, but it was mostly in hindsight. After the movie we went to dinner and then she came back here and we watched Hoodwinked. It was my second time seeing it and it was just as good. I had the song about being prepared stuck in my head for at least an hour. She came over again this past Friday and we watched Fantasia 2000 and Doogal, both of which were pretty good. Magical mustaches and a flamingo with a Yo-Yo, how can you get anything better. On a related topic, Vicky's planning on getting the afore mentioned flamingo painted onto her car and I can't wait to see it. Another thing I can't wait to see is her when she comes over again this coming Friday.

I finally finished reading the Witches by Roald Dahl. Vicky let me borrow it so I'm eager to get it back to her before I accidentaly destroy it somehow. It was a book I had read as a child and was nice to go through it again. Currently I'm reading Dean Koontz's novel Velocity. Like most of his books I can't seem to put it down. Basically, it's about a bartender named Billy who, after finishing a shift at the Tavern, finds a note under his windshield wipers. The note reads,

"if you don't take this note to the police and get them involved, I will kill a lovely blond schoolteacher somewhere in Napa County.
if you do take this note to the police, I will instead kill an elderly woman active in charity work.
you have six hours to decide.
the choice is yours."
And finally, I've got another pic of the strange robot supermodel chick that I'm trying to write a comic about. This is the first time I've ever successfully used photoshop to color something so horray again. I've included the bare lineart and after coloring to show what she'd look like within the comic itself, which I plan to make black and white, and what a cover might look like. Click the pic to see a bigger version.

The Bald Man and the Fly

I just passed in what is pretty much my final project for Drawing class. We were given a choice from about a dozen different short, and I do mean short, story's and we had to do an illustration for it. I kindof like mine, there are some things that I'd like to change, but generally it's not to bad. What is exciting about it though is that I actually experimented a little bit with it, I used an ink wash for the grey background, something I've never done before, and I used nib pens instead of repetograph, something I only recently started practicing with. I'll post the mark that I got when I find out.

Today and it's wonders

Horray!!! I'm going out with Vicky tonight to see X-Men 3 and I'm supper psyched about it. she'll be here after three somtime and then we're going to a nearby park to swing untill it's time to go to the theatre. I'ts a pretty small playground more then a park really, but it's got the key feature.

And now for an update on the Sumo... he burned. yup, I was pretty happy with the way he turned out, not perfect but not bad for a first or second atempt at sculpting either. I brought it home to bake it in the oven because that's what you're supposed to do. The next thing I know there's billowing clouds of smoke coming from the stove and the fire alarm is blaring. all in all the damage isn't TOO bad, but it's obviously not good either. the problem is mostly on the arms, one of which now has a giant bicep and is completely black and the other now has a rather nast looking hole in it. Sigh... hopefully the next piece will survive a little better.

Three points, and some words.

First, let me wish a Happy Birthday to my friend Vicky Mullin, she turned 23 today. Horray!!! On a related note, we're going to see X-Men 3 on Saturday, and I can't wait.

Secondly, I'm almost finished with my first sculpture. the Sumo is looking pretty much human, and has got something of a face going on. it should only take another couple hours to completely finish up, then it's into the oven for baking. that's right, the material we're using is cooked in the oven, a usefull feature since I dout that there's a single kiln in the whole of Miramichi. no offense to the river folk.

Third, I'm excited. It's been awhile since I got out the sketchbook, actually, more like I havn't felt like drawing whenever I got it out. at any rate, to keep myself awake during art history this week I started doodling and actually came up with something I'm pretty happy with. I've got some idea's for a comic and hopefully something will get down on paper. I'm going to post the pics I did in that first sesion, but I'm going to try not to put to much hype behind this untill I know more. untill next time. Peace.

The Sumo: Armature

Sculpture has always been an interest of mine. When I was little my favorite things were Play-dough and and Lego (funny how they rime too). Needless to say, I was very excited when I found out there was a class on the subject in my current course. $80 later I got to start putting together my first official sculpture. Geordie, the instructor, wants us to do something relatively figurative, meaning it's got to be based on life, anatomy and observation. I'm making a sumo wrestler.

Sumo, as you know, are big guys which means lots of clay. Only took about half a block covered this thing without a problem, so that's not too bad I've still got a block and a half for the second piece. Actually putting details on is seeming rather difficult at the moment but I'm sure I'll get it right. WheneverI try to add something, like the nose for instance, it just melds with everything else, and if I try to take anything away it goes too deep, or just doesn't work. I've been thinking about it though, and I've got some ideas that might work for me.

My second sculpture is going to be a sea serpent. it'll be going in, and out of the "water" and should hopefully be cool, and relatively easy. I've heard that making something come out of the base is pretty difficult, but I think I can pull it off. I'll be posting pics of that project as I go through it as well. One thing at a time, gotta finish this one first.

On a seperate note, my computer was fixed yesterday, which is of course awesome. The power supply went screwy after a short but powerfull lightning storm that I had the pleasure of walking through. Joy. That same storm caused my cell phone to stop working properly, another thing we got fixed up yesterday. I ended up getting a new phone, and by new I mean new to me. It's got a camera though so I'm happy about that, and it was free, and everyone's happy about that. The only bad thing is that I had been saving my phonebook onto the phone itelf instead of the SIM card, so I lost all of my contacts.

The school year is steadily drawing to a close and soon I'll be back here in Fredericton for a whole two months of the summer. I'd be more excited except that I know what I'm doing for the whole break and it involves Blockbuster, the Supper Store and me being very tired at the end. It's necesarry though since I screwed myself over with credit cards. I'm going to have to sell some stuff as well, just to make sure I end up with little to no debt when all is said and done.

Anywho, I'm just rambling on right now, so untill next time...Peace.

PSP posting; a survivors tale

So, here I am,very slowly writing with my psp. This means I won't have to miss any days due to computer problems.

Unfortunately I diden't get a picture of my armature, so I'll post one tomorow.

See you then.

Tuesday, May 16, 2006

Wow, only one day later and I'm already posting again, a new record.

So, I watched three movies yesterday: Ice Age 2, My Neighbor Totoro and Chicken Little. I fell asleep during Ice Age, but I think that may due to warmth, and a bike ride beforehand. I'm going to watch it when it comes out on DVD, whenever that is, because what I did see actually seemed good. Totoro was awesome just like most have told me, and just as unique as the other Miyazaki films I've seen. I liked Chicken Little just as much the second time around. Vicky and I saw it in theatre when it was released.

as promised, here is my Self Study project from last term. the scan turned out to be pretty horrible, which is annoying, but here it is anyways.

Also, I pretty much finished the armature for my first sculpture today, I'll post a picture of it tomorow.

untill then, Peace.

The Weekend; Toilet Dreams

First off, Happy Mothers day to my Mom, and all other mom's who may be reading.

The weekend felt SO long, probably because I worked through the whole thing, but it's all good, I need the money. I suppose it didn't help that this was the weekend that I was supposed to be in Fredericton taking part in the Kotei. For those who don't know the Kotei is the name of a big tournament for Legend of the Five Rings, a collectible card game I play with my Friends. I couldn't go because my boss needed me to stay. None of my buddy's won, but Curtis did get into the top 16 and received top Unicorn. Justin and Josh got 2nd and 3rd Lion respectively, and Benoit received top dragon. I really wish I could've gone to represent the mighty Mantis clan, maybe next year.

I just finished my current Drawing project for school, as soon as I get it back with a mark I'll post it here. I'm going to see if I can get my hands on the self study drawing I did and post that in the meantime, but we'll see.

X-Men 3 has me so psyched right now. Vicky and I watched the first two last week and I've been freaking out ever since. I can't wait to see Kelsey Grammer as the Beast! It just seems so right to me. The guys said that they would come up to see it with me opening night if I was off, and I want to see it with Vicky early next week. There seems so much stuff is going to happen in this film I don't know how they'll fit it all in.

anywho, I'm off. Peace.

Hello World!

I'm writing my first post at school because my computer has decided to stop turning on. I used to run a site called OnDebit, but I wasn't using it properly and couldn't justify spending 14$(CDN) a month to keep it online. This blog will be that site reborn!

OnDebit is going to be, primarily, a webcomic style blog. Or at least that is what my intentions are. Every once in awhile I'll upload a new comic, and hopefully I'll update with a new post at least two or three times a week. I don't know how I'm going to do that since my home computer is on the fritz, but hopefully it'll be fixed soon.

until next time.
